India: Day 11
Today we explored Delhi, visiting the Red Fort, bazaars and the President's house.
It was a hot day here, reaching temperatures of close to 100 degrees. However, the Indian's stayed true to their dress code, wearing only long pants and robes. I was the only person in shorts. Despite the heat they seem very comfortable, walking around in jeans or riding motorcycles in a suit and tie. Not a drop of sweat or a sigh of frustration betrays their peaceful demeanor.
During my walk around town I encountered a labor strike, comprised of a thousand men who were walking in two lines, carrying orange flags and chanting. Just as I was walking by a tow truck passed, inciting pandemonium and launching dozens of protestors onto the truck. They pounded the roof, hood and windows, but eventually let the truck get away.
Later I passed a different type of procession. This group was quitely walking, carrying a stretcher that was covered with a flower-laden sheet. I believe that this was a funeral procession.
Pictures of the day (including the protest and the funeral procession) have been added to my PicassWeb page.
I stayed inside after making the foot tour as the smog here eventually irritates the throat and lungs like a smoke filled bar.
