India: Day 9

Today was largely uneventful, as we planned to relax a bit before tomorrow's nine hour car ride to Delhi.

We rolled out of bed and had brunch.  Most of the restaurants and stores were closed in town today either to observe a weekend holiday or to participate in a strike against the Chinese occupation of Tibet - the waiters broken explanation seemed to imply both rationales.  As a result, they snuck us to the roof of the restaurant and sat us away from the road so no one would see us eating.

I had a traditional Himalayan breakfast which included bland pot-sticker dumplings and large bowl of soup that was similar to top ramen with only a tenth of the flavor package.

While we were eating a band of local monkeys sprinted across the roof top dining area to the building next door.  The monkeys are members of the community here, frequently playing in the trees or taunting dogs on the streets.

Incense appears to be the preferred air freshener in this part of the world.  While the acrid smell is excellent for offsetting the foul odors of the roadside gutters that double as a sewage system, it can inflame a nauseous stomach.

The hotel owner watched the 7th Annual Indian Academy Awards in the evening.  The show mirrored the US Academy Awards, beautiful people congratulated each other in English before distributing gold figurines.

After watching the Tibetan candle-lit procession to the temple we went to sleep early.
