The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) recently released report that details where the money invested in VC funds comes from.  I have pasted one of their charts below that breaks down the sources of capital that VCs invest. 

I think it sheds some light on how the VC 'capital supply chain' works and will help illuminate my post about the market for investable capital.
